The minor Spatial Economics offers students the possibility to enhance
their knowledge of the interactions between geography and economics from
an economic perspective. In short, it focuses on spatial aspects of
economic activity and economic aspects of spatial phenomena. This
includes studying (a selection of) the following issues:

Dynamics of spatial planning; trends and determinants of urbanization;
smart cities; geography of declining regions; the behavior of the
government as an actor in economic processes; The role of international
trade, migration and capital flows in driving globalization and regional
integration; location behavior of firms and people; economic valuation
of nature areas; the impact of socio-economic processes, spatial policy
and bio-physical conditions on land use change; the interaction between
economic growth and environmental pressure; the resource curse; road
pricing; the economics of flooding; the interaction between geography
and institutions in driving regional economic growth.
