Student Wellbeing Point & Panel

Last updated on 22 September 2022
Student Wellbeing Point & Panel

Studying on your own is challenging work that can result in tension, worry, or uncertainty. Balancing your study, work, and private life adds an extra challenge to that. This can lead to studying being perceived as heavy or even unpleasant work, rather than being experienced as fun and educational. Over the course of the past few years, the number of students struggling with mental health has noticeably increased – which is why several new initiatives have been set up at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam: to increase Student Wellbeing and raise awareness for Mental Health, among which the Student Wellbeing Point & Panel.

The Student Wellbeing Point has re-opened with the start of the new Academic Year. Our Point Peers are ready to welcome you again! Will you drop by soon?

Student Wellbeing Point & Panel

  • What is the Student Wellbeing Point?

The Student Wellbeing Point is an initiative created by and for students. In the informal and relaxed space, trained VU students offer their fellow students a listening ear, a safe space to take a breather, or advice on where to find VU support services. The Point Peers are in close contact with employees and initiatives surrounding student wellbeing, like the Student Psychological Counsellors, and can easily help students set up appointments!

  • Location and contact info

Would you like to talk to a fellow student? Do you need help making an appointment with VU services? Do you want to get your heart out or just share something?

You can visit the physical Student Wellbeing Point from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00. It is located on the ground floor of the VU main building. Our cosy living room is located right next to the Student Desk, as you can see in the video below!

Prefer digital contact? Reach us via the Livechat on this page and by e-mail.

    • Livechat (every workday 10:00 - 16:00)

The Student Wellbeing Point during VU Introduction Days & Re-Opening

We were present at the Information Market & a scheduled stop on the Campus Tour. Students had the chance to win Golden Tickets in a ‘Grabbelton.’ The Point re-opened for students on the 5th of September. Come visit us!

We are proud of the project and are thrilled to share this with you. If you want to stay tuned, follow us on Instagram!

  • Student Wellbeing Panel

The counterpart to the Point, and second half of this twin project, is the Student Wellbeing Panel. It consists of a group of 8 students, each representing a faculty of the VU. In the past year, each Panel member has worked on forming an extensive contact network within their faculty. Additionally, they have mapped out their faculty’s wellbeing-related projects and initiatives into an Inventory. By updating this inventory and promoting their faculty’s initiatives to other students, the Panel works to improve awareness and communication between students and VU services. During our Internal Panel Meetings, the Panel members keep each other updated on developments, aiming to create equal opportunities across faculties. During our External Panel Meetings, the Panel is involved on a policy level by providing feedback in crucial steps of the development of new wellbeing-related projects.

Do you have a question, comment or an idea on how Student Wellbeing could be promoted or improved within your faculty? Your Panel Representative can think along with you and figure out the best starting point! Just send an email to studentwellbeingpanel@vu.nl and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
