The European Research Council (ERC) is offering talented researchers the opportunity to make their mark on the international stage. The programme is intended to stimulate outstanding research that goes beyond the limitations of existing research disciplines. Researchers are encouraged to take risks and be creative in their work. ERC provides grants to researchers who are looking to set up (starting grants) or consolidate (consolidator grants) their own research team or programme. ERC also provides grants to already established research leaders (advanced grants).
Starting Grants aim to support up-and-coming research leaders who are about to establish a research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe. The scheme targets promising researchers who have the proven potential of becoming independent research leaders. It will support the creation of excellent new research teams.
Consolidator Grants aim to support excellent principal investigators who have already shown research independence and evidence of maturity at a career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own research team.
Advanced Grants complements the Starting Grant funding scheme by targeting researchers who have already established themselves as independent research leaders in their own right. Advanced Grants allow exceptional established research leaders in any field of science, engineering and scholarship to pursue frontier research of their choice. The aim to encourage risk-taking and interdisciplinarity, and to support pioneering frontier research projects.
