Training on Effective Communication and Conflict Resolution in Jordan

11 July 2023
“Being able to communicate effectively is also a skill like any other. It too can be learned, given time. Anyone can make a start on improving their communication skills at any time, and the investment of time and effort is likely to pay off rapidly”

With this message, Marise and Jorn from CIS-VU kicked off a Tailor-made-training in Ar Ramtha, Jordan, a town 5 km from the Syrian border. The first of two 3-day training was conducted in a Health Care facility for a group of 18 Syrian participants between the age of 20 and 35 who are working or volunteering in the health sector. Their daily job involves dealing with complaints and conflicts and providing accurate information and services. Through participatory training methods and role-play the participants enhanced their awareness, knowledge and skills in terms of the way they communicate, how to facilitate communication and effectively deal with conflict.

The second 3-day training was held for staff from the Jordanian University of Science and Technology (JUST), which is CIS-VU’s new partner in the Nuffic funded TMT project and provided the opportunity for Syrian participants. Training topics involved e.g.:  Conflict styles, Emotions, Metacommunication and Intercultural communication. Participants responded well to the new techniques and change in mind-set, but more practice is needed. The next training will take place in September.
