Yaser Ellethy elected as president ESITIS

17 October 2022
Yaser Ellethy, director of the Center for Islamic Theology (CIT), has been elected president of the European Society for Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies (ESITIS).

The European Society for Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies (ESISTIS) is an international and interdisciplinary association for the scholarly study of intercultural theology and interreligious relations. ESITIS was founded in 2005 in Amsterdam, by a group of scholars from different parts of the European continent. The association aims to stimulate and coordinate research and teaching in intercultural theology and interreligious studies within the disciplines of theology, religious studies, anthropology, sociology and philosophy at both doctoral and postdoctoral levels throughout Europe. ESITIS organizes biennial international conferences in different regions of Europe. To date, the association has organized nine international conferences that resulted in peer-reviewed publications.

Although most of the association's members are based in Europe, ESITIS has developed and maintained links with scientists from other continents. This is visible, for example, in the number of speakers and participants at its conferences coming from the U.S., Canada, Asia and the Middle East. The conferences provided the opportunity for the launch of the peer-reviewed journal Interreligious Studies and Intercultural Theology (ISIT).
