Over the past years, many students have entered the university and generally they indicated that they had to get used to studying at a university. Compared to high school, the first period of the study is perceived as substantially more difficult and the study load is high (especially since there are less contact hours than in high school). It shows that students whose (high school) math level is up-to-date, are typically more successful in passing their courses in the first year.
To bridge the gap between high school and university, we set up a VU Summer Programme. During the months July and August, you can read up on theory and practice exercises in an interactive way. The Summer Programme was created by students and professors from EOR and EDS, making sure that topics perfectly align with the first year curriculum.
The Summer Programme can be followed for a fee of €25. This money is not going to VU Amsterdam, but is required to make use of the external platform SOWISO. VU Amsterdam has already contributed a large amount to keep the fee as low as possible.
How does it work?
Please register for the online Summer Programme of your choice by following these steps:
1. Visit the SOWISO environment for the online summer programme: click here
2. Create an account within the SOWISO environment.
3. Go to the ‘Store’ tab and buy the product that corresponds with "VU Summer Course (EOR/EDS) 2022".
4. The purchased Summer Programme will appear on the screen.
Some quick info:
• The programme is offered online, you can work on it whenever and wherever you wish, as long as you have an internet connection.
• For all chapters, there are diagnostic tests. In case you already master a topic sufficiently, the programme will allow you to skip it.
• The courses are available in Dutch and English. You can change the language in your profile.
• Read the welcome page on SOWISO carefully. As soon as you completed at least 70% of all chapters, you can get a certificate as proof that you completed (a large chunk of) the Summer Programme.
• Following the Summer Program is not mandatory. It is set up with the intention to help you get a smooth start into the first year of your study.
