VU CSL team receives two grants for Internationalization

14 September 2022
Marjolein Zweekhorst and Sarju Sing Rai from the Community Service Learning (CSL) team have received two grants to support and foster internationalization in education at VU Amsterdam.

International interdisciplinary collaborations for students
The first grant on Virtual International Collaboration (Virtuele internationale samenwerkingsprojecten – VIS) was received from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to provide Dutch students the opportunity to gain international collaborative experience through virtual education modules. This grant will be applied to the Interdisciplinary Community Service Learning (ICSL2) course where Master students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds and Universities (from Global North and South) collaborate to address complex societal issues like Energy transition, Digital Inclusion, Urban nature and healing, COVID-19, among others. The course and the project starts February 2023. VU Master students are encouraged to enroll in this course for international immersion and societal engagement. Read more on the ICSL2 course here.

International service learning immersion for teachers
The second grant was received from the VU Amsterdam grant scheme for Aurora Collaborations. This grant will be used to support experience sharing and learning among selected teachers who are involved in or interested in CSL from three AURORA Institutions (VU Amsterdam, University of Duisburg-Essen and University of Rovira i Virgili). The teachers visit the three institutions to observe and understand the CSL programs in each of these universities; discuss strategies to further strengthen, institutionalize, sustain and scale-up CSL; and explore the possibility of inter-institutional collaborations. This initiative is expected to start from November 2022.
