Psychosocial support (PSS) training completed

The purpose of the five trainings was to enhance the trainees’ ability to provide psychosocial group and individual support while simultaneously taking care of their own mental health and ensuring the sustainability of their work. Firstly, the group of Al Kayrawan received a Level 2 PSS training refresher to better enable them to start delivering group support activities now that a sense of normalcy has returned in regards to the Covid-19 pandemic. This was better reinforced during another training day with the recently released PSS Manual for Adolescents that was designed and delivered to all institutions. The manual’s topics were chosen via a quantitative assessment filled by the program’s participants. This training day consisted also of stress management exercises for the group and a discussion about existing and foreseen challenges to implementation. After conducting an assessment of the existing staff and beneficiary support structures in the institutions, it was deemed advantageous to devise systemic approaches to these strategies. Al Kayrawan focal persons received a training on the development of a beneficiary support structure while focal persons from all 3 institutions joined a training on developing a staff support structure which had been non-existent to that point. Finally, selected trainees also participated in an advanced Level 3 PSS training, where methods of lay counselling were enhanced to better enable participants to counsel low-risk cases.
