Pre-doctoral programme for Indonesian and Chinese PhD students

8 April 2022
Doing a PhD can be a challenging endeavour. The challenge is even greater when a PhD is done in a foreign country with a different culture and academic system. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, in partnership with Leiden University and University of Groningen organises preparatory doctoral trainings customised for PhD students from Indonesia and China.

The objective of the trainings is to support incoming and future PhD students, preparing them for their PhD trajectories at a Dutch University.

The training comprises of four modules: Academic English Writing, Academic Competences, Soft Skills Training and Dutch Crash Course. With this intensive two-week programme, PhD students will be equipped with the necessary research, academic writing and soft skills to manage challenges commonly encountered in a PhD trajectory. Furthermore, the programme makes the transition to the Netherlands easier and faster thanks to the practical insights provided by PhD alumni from China and Indonesia on ‘life in the Netherlands’, the Dutch culture and the Dutch academic system.

The 2022 trainings will be held online: 6-17 June 2022 for Indonesia and 4-15 July 2022 for China. Applications have already started!
