During the first part of the event, students attended an interactive presentation from Incoming Exchange Officer Neira Becar in the Aula. Through intercultural quiz questions and cultural theories, students were sensitised to topics such as cultural differences, their own cultural bias and (reversed) culture shock. The first part of the exchange event ended with a student panel, consisting of VU students who have been abroad to Canada, South Korea, the UK, and Iceland during their exchange semester last year. In conversation with Neira Becar and each other, the students talked about their own exchange experience, including culture shock, making friends abroad and academic differences in different countries and cultures.
The second part of the event consisted of a Meet & Greet in the Foyer. Different tables indicated different exchange regions, where students could meet each other face to face to talk about their upcoming exchange. International exchange students from our partner universities joined this part of the programme and gave students insights about their own country and culture. Other VU students that had already returned from their exchange joined for this part as well and gave students practical tips for their semester abroad.

After two years of Corona forced breaks, the outgoing exchange team could finally organise the exchange event again. This event, which usually takes place every spring, brought together the outgoing exchange students of 2022/2023 with the current incoming exchange students from our partner universities, as well as returned VU students, who have been on exchange last year. With approximately 650 students attending, the event was a big success.
