By co-organizing the event ‘Impact 2021’ the VU called attention to the contribution of science to society. And as the corona pandemic continued to influence our way of working and studying, a location was opened on campus for rapid antigen testing. During the national Alarm Day in April a cardboard cut-out of Abraham Kuyper was submerged into water in protest against inadequate funding for higher education. Furthermore, in 2021 the VU was the first university that signed the Amnesty manifesto against sexual violence. And throughout the year, 16 initiatives were selected for the exposition ‘A Better World @VU’, to illustrate the contribution of the VU community towards todays greatest societal challenges.
