A one-day psychosocial support training was provided to teachers and NGO staff from Al Kayrawan, Learning through Action and Renovation and Development Association. A total of 17 people attended the training which was split into two different groups. This was followed by a one-on-one training with each of the attendees.

With the decline of mental health in the Lebanese community today as well as the decrease in availability of mental health services due to immigration of psychotherapists and high demand, the main objective of this training was to enhance trainees’ empathetic and active listening skills to enable them to deliver lay-counselling sessions. The training hence involved an overview of common psychological disorders, in purpose of educating the participants to spot warning signs, as well as tools that can help in supporting low-risk cases.

The one-on-one training also involved designing the upcoming interventions each of the participants will uptake with their own beneficiaries, including support groups for young men and women.

Participants shared that they significantly benefited from the training, both on personal and professional levels, and that they are eager to start implementing psychosocial support activities.
