Dies Natalis takes place, reception/opening NU Building cancelled

10 November 2021
The Executive Board has decided, to its great regret and after careful deliberation, that the reception after the Dies Natalis on Thursday 11 November will not take place. The Dies Natalis itself will go ahead unchanged, but the reception during which the opening of the NU Building was to take place, has been cancelled.

The increasingly worrying corona situation appeals to our responsibility. Our strong connection with Amsterdam UMC also demands an extra responsible attitude from our university.
At the moment, the university limits itself to activities related to education and research. An academic ceremony is part of that, a reception is not.
Precautionary corona measures have been taken such that you can safely attend the Dies in our Aula at the Vrije Universiteit. Naturally, we fully understand if you decide to attend the Dies Natalis online via the VU website.
We still look forward to celebrating the Dies together. The programme will continue, including Sandjai Bhulai's Dies speech, the farewell of former Rector Vinod Subramaniam, the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Marleen Stikker and a brief presentation by the new Rector, Jeroen Geurts.
Whether in the Aula or online: you are most welcome!
