DESCRIPTION: The workshop ‘Age-appropriate design of online platform
s: questions for EU law and children’s rights’ will bring togethe
r scholars working on the protection of minors online, from the persp
ective of children’s rights and EU law. The workshop responds to th
e fast developments around social media age restrictions for minors a
cross Europe and at the EU level. The workshop departs from the posit
ion that social media age restrictions are just one possible solution
to a complex and broad problem. When it comes to protecting minors o
nline, a children’s rights perspective requires age-appropriate des
ign of online services that respects children’s evolving capacities
. The workshop asks how current and new EU laws can ensure age-approp
riate design of social media and other online services that minors us
e, and how children’s rights should inform the implementation of ex
isting EU laws (platform regulation, data protection, media regulatio
 n) and possible new legal solutions.<a data-asset-id="b0435371-5643-4
