The Vrije Universiteit will host the 8th World Congress on Adult Capacity 'Maximising autono my and tailoring safeguards for adults in need of support' in Amsterd am on 8, 9 and 10 July 2026. The congress will be convened by Kees Bl ankman and Rieneke Stelma-Roorda. It is our pleasure to invite you to join us in Amsterdam.
Bringing together international experts on aging, disability and guardianship, this congress provides a plat form for contributions from the various disciplines and practices tha t contribute to improving the rights of persons in need of support.
In the coming decades, the dignity and human rights of per sons in need of support will be threatened by a number of development s. Not only by geopolitical tensions or the impact of climate change, but also by cuts in care budgets and access to justice. WCAC 2026 ai ms to bring together a community of researchers, people who care or a re cared for, policymakers, practitioners and others in all relevant professions, NGO’s and other stakeholders to interact and learn fro m one another’s experiences to address the challenges of the next d ecade.
The working language during the congress is English.
Amsterdam is an attractive location not only from a tourist point of view, but also because it is easily accessible via Schiphol – Am sterdam International Airport, one of Europe’s largest airports wit h many direct international flight connections. The Vrije Universitei t, the congress venue, is uniquely located between the airport (13 mi nutes) and the city centre (12 minutes), close to Amsterdam Zuid trai n station (9 minutes’ walk) and with a tram stop right outside the door.
