SUMMARY:Book Launch 'Emotions, Ethics and Mass Atrocities'
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:

On Wednesday 24 June 20
26, CICJ organizes a book launch for the recently published volume on
 'Emotions, Ethics and Mass Atrocities'.

The book explores how
scholars, teachers and practitioners navigate the emotions, and corr
esponding ethical dilemmas, of working in the field of mass atrocitie
s. Being continuously exposed to the suffering of the victims, the cr
imes of the perpetrators and the lasting impact on post-conflict soci
eties, may take a toll on the wellbeing of scholars, students and pra
ctitioners. These inadvertent consequences have long been ignored, in
research and in practice, but lead to ethical conundrums. To what ex
tent do negative emotions influence the work and decision-making of s
cholars, teachers and practitioners, and should they play a role?

The book will be launched with a roundtable discussion with Thijs
Bouwknegt, Marije Luitjens, Caecilia van Peski, Maartje Weerdesteijn
and Martin Witteveen which will be moderated by Alette Smeulers.<
