Stress experi enced by autistic people is often not caused by autism itself. Instea d, negative social experiences such as rejection, misunderstanding, s tigma and loneliness play a major role. This is the key finding of th e research conducted by Alvin van Asselt, an autism researcher with l ived experience. He suggests that reducing stress requires not only i ndividual support, but also a more inclusive social environment.
