Join our poetry reading club for three sessions of our Poetry Aft ernoons on January 5, 12 and 19 in 3D. No need to prepare anything; w e'll select some poems from Len Pennie's collection called ''poyums,' ' and we'll read and discuss together!
For these Poetry Afternoons, we're reading Len Pennie's bo ok ''poyums.'' The Schottish writer engages with themes like marginal ization, abuse, mental health, feelings of loss and loneliness and wo men's rights. With ''poyums,'' she won the 2024 Scots Book of the Yea r – and a big part of the poems are written in Scottish as well. He r poetry is very readable, so it's perfect if you're new to reading p oetry – but also if you're a poetry afficionado.
This first session, we will read some poem s together from the first half of Len Pennie's poetry collection. Don 't worry; you don't need to prepare anything! We select some poems an d bring them with us. At 4 PM, there is a short walk-in with coffee a nd tea (and cookies!). When we've settled in, we'll start with a brie f introduction of the poet, poetry and the theme. Then, we'll dive in and read and discuss the poems; what strikes you? What do you like o r don't you like? We'll share, exchange thoughts – and around 5:30 PM, we will close the session.
You can find the entrance to 3D on the campus square, next to the Sp ar supermarket. It has 3D in lights in the window, and a big gnome on the steps that lead to the door.
