DESCRIPTION:
Use innovation as your compass!
Healthcare is at
a tipping point. We are seeing increasingly complex patients, and wo
rkloads and healthcare costs are rising. At the same time, we bear re
sponsibility for sustainability: what we do has an impact on both peo
ple and the environment. Therefore, we must make choices – and prov
ide better justification for them. This is what Professor of Anesthes
iology Denise Veelo says in her inaugural lecture. Innovation offers
opportunities. Artificial intelligence, precision medicine, and digit
al tools help us make healthcare more personalized and smarter. But i
nnovation doesn't automatically mean doing more. It helps us determin
e where to invest, where to be cautious, and when to honestly acknowl
edge that a treatment no longer adds value. Veelo's mission is to use
research and technology to guide these choices in perioperative care
: acting smarter where necessary, doing less where possible, and some
times consciously not doing anything. With science and a moral compas
s, we build appropriate choices – for today's patients and tomorrow
's society. Innovatie als kompas voor passende perioperatieve behande
