Students are ul timately responsible for their own learning process and academic success, but in practice teachers often continue to play an importan t guiding role. Even with well-designed education, success is no t guaranteed: students make their own choices regarding how and when they learn.

In this session, we will explore ins ights from the literature on self-directed learning, focusing on resp onsibility, ownership, agency, and agentic learning. We will translat e these insights into practical ways of designing education that ;encourages students to take a more active role in directing the ir own learning process.
