SUMMARY:Active Bystander Training - start 09:00
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:

How do you combat undes
irable behaviour? How do you become an active bystander who contribut
es to a culture of respect, equality and tolerance? This training wil
l give you concrete tools to address behaviour that makes you uncomfo
rtable in a respectful and open manner.

Suppose you witness un
wanted behaviour. Think of bullying, (sexual) harassment, insulting,
belittling or discrimination, for example. It can then be quite diffi
cult to say something about it. You may not dare, or you do not want
to be the first to say something, or you are afraid that others will
think you overreact. Dependency relationships can also make it quite
difficult to speak out.

VU Amsterdam is working towards a cultu
re in which staff and students trust that conversations about manners
will lead to greater mutual understanding and contribute to a harmon
ious working or study environment. We encourage each other to discuss
incidents with each other at an early stage. This requires not only
respect for different views on manners, but also the willingness and
skill to engage in uncomfortable or difficult conversations.

<a

DESCRIPTION: Suppose you witness unwanted behaviour. Think of bullying
, (sexual) harassment, insulting, belittling or discrimination, for e
xample. It can then be quite difficult to say something about it. You
may not dare, or you do not want to be the first to say something, o
r you are afraid that others will think you overreact. Dependency rel
ationships can also make it quite difficult to speak out. VU Amsterda
m is working towards a culture in which staff and students trust that
conversations about manners will lead to greater mutual understandin

ourage each other to discuss incidents with each other at an early st
age. This requires not only respect for different views on manners, b
ut also the willingness and skill to engage in uncomfortable or diffi
