 > <p>Overall, we conclude that SjD patients face a range of dental ch
 allenges including premature loss of teeth. This loss of teeth is not
  the result of an increased risk of periodontitis, but rather from an
  increased susceptibility to develop caries. The latter is presumably
  due to the reduced secretion of saliva, which reduces its protective
  and cleansing and effect. Our prospective clinical studies have show
 n that in SjD lost teeth can successfully be replaced by implant supp
 orted overdentures or restorations. Nevertheless, the overall oral he
 alth satisfaction of SjD patients remains lower than that of individu
 als without SjD. Further studies on the factors responsible for this
