DESCRIPTION:
Every medicine at its best: The value of pharmaceutic
al care
Medicines do not work equally well for every user. As mo
re medicines are used simultaneously, the risk of errors, side effect
s, and other problems increases. When dispensing medicines, proper us
e, tailored to the patient's needs and wishes, has come to the forefr
ont. This is stated by Professor of Pharmaceutical Care Jacqueline Hu
gtenburg in her inaugural lecture. Patients' demand for care has chan
ged significantly within a short period of time. The internet and mob
ile phones influence how we interact with patients, who have increasi
ngly sought information about their illness and potential treatments.
Furthermore, there are more and more elderly people living at home u
ntil a later age. The pressure this causes is exacerbated by medicine
shortages and the ever-increasing shortage of staff. Much greater co
nsideration must be given to the environmental impact of medicines. N
ew pharmaceutical care must anticipate all these issues, requiring a
flexible working method. Ieder medicijn op zijn best: De waarde van f
