The current generation of students is a protest generation. A whopping 44% of the current generation of students in the Netherlands has participated i n political action in the past five years, far exceeding the previous generations. And who can blame them? Students today inherit a world fraught with issues. From rising temperatures and ocean levels, to ri sing income and wealth inequalities. From the loom of war in our land s, to the horrible realities of wars around the world.
It can get, all in all, a bit overwhelming. What to do? Where to start? While increasing numbers of people have taken to the streets in prot est over the last couple of years, taking this step can be quite daun ting. In this event, the SRVU and 3D will therefore look into the rea lity of being a protestor. Through first-hand accounts and experience s, we want to take you straight into the action, and teach you about what to expect if and when you do decide to take to the streets. ;
Over the last couple of years, the Netherlands, Amsterdam, an d the VU campus have seen many protests. Drawing on the extensive exp erience of our friends of the SRVU with these acts of protesting, we will look into the reality of such protest movements. Extinction Rebe llion protests around the country, the Encampment on de VU campus las t year, and many other protests that the SRVU has engaged in will be discussed, and the realities of being in the thick of it will be shar ed.
