 . This historic collection was donated by the couple to Vrije Univers
 iteit Amsterdam in 2012. In total, this former private library (the P
 ostma-Gosker Library) consists of over 2,100 titles.</p> <p>The colle
 ction comprises numerous extremely rare and unique Protestant works f
 rom the 15th to the late 18th century, with an emphasis on biblical s
 tudies. Exegetical, philological and grammatical-Hebrew studies form 
 the main part. In addition, the collection contains many titles relat
 ing to Hungary and the history of the Hungarian Protestant Church. It
  also includes numerous academic writings from other Protestant unive
 rsities, particularly in Germany.</p><p>A particular focus is on acad
 emic publications from the Frisian University in Franeker. These incl
 ude hundreds of disputations, dissertations and inaugural lectures. D
 uring its existence from 1585 to 1811, this university was an importa
 nt Protestant educational centre in Europe, where more than 1,200 Hun
 garians came to study, mainly theology.</p><p>In 2022, the Postma-Gos
 ker Library was expanded with a second donation. That part is central
  to this exhibition. This new donation comprises more than two hundre
 d titles, the content of which directly ties in with the focus of the
  2012 donation. In addition, this donation contains several masterpie
 ces, including the great work by Joannes Reuchlin,<em> The rudimentis
  hebraicis</em>. Pforzheim, 1506. Exceptional in size and format is t
 he 34-volume <em>Thesaurus antiquitatum sacrarum</em> by the 18th-cen
 tury Italian scholar Blasio Ugolino. This work, printed in Venice, co
 ntains a large collection of scholarly studies and treatises on the a
 ncient Hebrew world. A library in itself!</p> </body> </html>
