 economies worldwide and have unique characteristics, including typica
 lly a longer term focus. At the same time, they have their own challe
 nges, including the transition between generations or to non-family m
 embers. Therefore, researchers have devoted particular effort to unde
 rstanding family businesses. Given what has been done already, what a
 re the frontiers in academic understanding of family businesses? What
  questions also have a large practical impact? Are different ways of 
 studying needed? We are fortunate to welcome Maarten de Groot, Kajsa 
 Haag, Daniel Pittino, and Jan-Phillip Ahrens as panelist. This panel 
 with decades of expertise in family business research will give point
