Working on the VU Campus

Last updated on 24 September 2021
Practical information about working on the VU Campus during the corona pandemic.

From 25 September, the advice to work from home changes. This puts us in a state of transition to hybrid working.

Adhere to the basic rules, also when you are at VU Amsterdam. Do not come to campus when you experience symptoms, and get tested. Stay at home if you are waiting for the result of a corona test (of yourself or a housemate) or if you are in isolation after a positive test. Did you come from abroad or were you in contact with someone who has corona? Use the national government's quarantine check to determine whether you need to go into quarantine.

For more information, see the flyer with the basic rules and campus rules. Teachers can also find more information on the page Teaching and corona. You can also follow the latest news at There, you will find out what the measures mean for VU.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I come to VU Amsterdam as an employee?

From 25 September, the advice to work from home changes. This puts us in a state of transition to hybrid working.

VU Amsterdam continues to facilitate working from home in combination with working on campus. This hybrid working method supports employees in choosing a suitable and pleasant workplace. In addition, hybrid working makes our organisation more sustainable and allows us to make smarter use of the available space on campus. On you can read more about hybrid working at VU Amsterdam, including the future prospects. You can make agreements about hybrid working with your manager and your immediate colleagues.

Visit this page for tips on how to do this well and in a healthy way. Discuss what this means for you with your manager.

The following always applies: if you are suffering from a cold, or a housemate has a fever and/or is short of breath, stay at home, get tested and do not come to VU Amsterdam. Use the quarantine check from the national government to determine whether you need to go into quarantine.

  • Workplace hygiene
    • Hygiene wipes are provided centrally (at the secretariat) at all workplaces. The secretariats take care of further distribution.
    • Employees can use these wipes (at the start of their work) to clean the workplace: desktop, chair rail, keyboard, mouse and telephone
    • For hygiene reasons, it is extra important to work at a clean flex workplace. To facilitate this even better, the cleaning companies use green and red cards. After a cleaning round, the card is placed with the green side up ('This workplace is clean'). After you used the workplace, you can turn the card around ('This workplace has been used'). The cleaner will then clean the workplace again. The cards themselves are of course also cleaned or replaced after use. The 'used' workplaces will be cleaned daily for the time being. The cards are used in the buildings on campus that have flex workplaces: the Main Building, Building MF, NU Building, Initium and the Transitorium.
    • The regular cleaning programme in buildings is in place, with an increased focus on toilets for example.
    • Should you have any questions or comments, please contact the FCO Service Desk,, tel: (020) 598 57 77.
  • Ventilation in the buildings

The page Corona - Frequently Asked Questions discusses this in detail.

  • My question is not listed here, what should I do?

    Check or contact your manager.
