Wellbeing and corona

Last updated on 9 March 2022
The coronavirus has turned the world upside down. As an employee of VU Amsterdam, this will not have escaped your notice; whether you are having to work from home or as part of a skeleton crew on campus in a vital or mission-critical position.

In these uncertain times when so much has changed, it’s perfectly natural not to feel like your normal self. It’s good to share such feelings with your colleagues. Even if – or perhaps because – you no longer see each other at VU Amsterdam these days. Sharing experiences with each other can help you realize that you are not the only one who needs time to adapt.

In addition to contacting colleagues, you can also contact the experts and helplines listed below if you have questions or need advice and support.

You can also consult the Helpmatrix VU to find out who you can turn to with questions.

Wellbeing and corona

  • HR-advisor

The HR advisor of your faculty or service is your first point of contact for questions about work and human resources, and can help refer you to other experts if necessary. View the overview of the advisors here.

  • VU physician

The company doctor is also available if you have not been sick (or have been reported) for a discussion about your health in relation to work. This is called a preventive or working conditions consultation hour. Due to the corona crisis, the company doctors also work from home, and consultation hours take place by telephone. You can make an appointment via the Arbo & Milieu secretariat: 020 - 59 89008 (on working days between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm) or secretariaat.amd@vu.nl.

  • VU Social Worker

The company social worker can provide guidance in the event of (imminent incapacity for work due to) psychosocial problems. Due to the corona crisis, the company social worker also works from home, and conversations take place by telephone. You can make an appointment via the Arbo & Milieu secretariat: 020 - 59 89008 (on working days between 9:00 and 12:00) or secretariaat.amd@vu.nl.

  • Director Career Coaching

The career coaching director can mediate between you and a pool of external career coaches for individual career or coaching questions. Do you have questions about your career? Or do you want to improve certain things in your work or in your current home working situation with the help of coaching, such as work-life balance, prioritization or personal effectiveness? Please contact Lidy Stassen at lidy.stassen@vu.nl or tel: 020-5985406, for an intake interview (by telephone or via Skype). In this corona time, external guidance trajectories continue online. • Meaning in corona time

How can we experience sense in corona time? A team of employees who have experience in guiding questions about meaning is available for short conversations, once or on a regular basis. Read more.

  • Confidential advisers

The confidential counselor can provide support in the event of undesirable behaviour. Undesirable behavior is understood to mean: discrimination, (sexual) intimidation/pressure, stalking, bullying, aggression and violence. Due to the corona crisis, the confidential counselors also work from home, and conversations take place by telephone.
