This year's programme is scheduled for 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29 and 30 August. This includes the 'Practical Matters Day' on Wednesday 24 August (formerly known as 'Arrival day'). There is no central programme during the weekend.

  • What are the costs of the VU Master's Introduction Days?

  • Registration and cancellations

    How do I register?

If you have applied for the first year of a Master's programme and your registration is completed, you will receive several introduction newsletters during the summer. In this newsletter we will inform you once registration for the several events starts. It's important to note that you will need to register per event separately.

    Until when can I register?

This will be decided later, however some events will work on a first come, first served base.

I signed up for an event, but would like to cancel

Please send an e-mail to, so we can give your spot to someone else.

I signed up for a specific group or class, but would like to switch

Please send an e-mail to, and let us know which group or class you would like to join instead. We will see if it's possible to switch and if so, inform you via e-mail.

  • Is participation in the VU Master's introduction mandatory?

Participation is not mandatory. However, we do advise you to join the events, since it's the perfect start of your time here! The Practical Matters day is also not mandatory, but it will take more effort to arrange these things on your own. More information on how to do so, can be found on our Arrival webpage.

  • I’m from Amsterdam/I will not be living in Amsterdam during my studies: are the VU Master's Introduction Days relevant for me?

Absolutely! The VU Master's Introduction Days are not just for getting to know Amsterdam, they are especially meant for getting to know student life and your fellow students. You will also discover all the sports, study and student associations and it is a fun way to make friends and get to know fellow students before your studies start!

  • What's the difference between the VU Master's Introduction Days and the Faculty Introduction Days?

The VU Master's introduction focuses on getting to know the university in general, students from other programmes, and the city. During the faculty introduction you will receive important information about your study programme, faculty and studying at VU Amsterdam. You will also meet your fellow students and lecturers. More information about the Faculty Introduction Days can be found here.

  • Can I sleep somewhere if I do not live in Amsterdam?

We do not arrange sleeping places and therefore we make sure that the central part almost always ends before 23:00. This way you still have enough time to travel to the city where you live. The final party on Tuesday 30 August can go on until late at night and it is therefore useful to arrange a place to stay overnight.

  • I have an allergy, illness or functional impairment

We do our best to make the VU Master's Introduction Days also accessible for students with a disability and/or (chronic) illness. If you want to be sure of an enjoyable time, please send an e-mail to and indicate what we have to take into account or what you need help with. We will be happy to help you!

  • Religion and the VU Master's Introduction Days

VU Amsterdam is traditionally a university where students from different cultures feel at home. We take all religions into account, also during the VU Master's Introduction Days. For example, an Islamic prayer room is available on campus.

  • Will there be COVID-19 measures during the VU Master's Introduction Days?

As of yet, there are no COVID-19 measures in place, which means that the VU Master's Introduction Days can go on as planned. Of course, this can change. In all cases we try to organise as nice a programme as possible and always follow the applicable rules from the national government.
