Design technology to guarantee access to justice and human rights

Law in Action: Justice and Legal Technology

Learn how individuals and organisations can enforce compliance with human rights and how legal technology can contribute to that in practice.

Admission and registration

  • Admission

This minor is open to (exchange) students of the Bachelor of Law, the Bachelor Law in Society and the Bachelor Criminology of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Law and criminology students from other universities can apply for this minor, if they have obtained 90 EC.

The minor is open to exchange and Semester in Amsterdam students.

Bachelor students of Artificial Intelligence can participate in the courses Legal Technology and Design Thinking and Justice and Legal Technology Clinic.

In 2022-2023 access to the complete programme of the minor is restricted to 30 students. These students will be selected on the basis of their motivation, CV and grades.

The courses Human Rights in Action and Legal Technology and Design Thinking are open to 50 students in total. It is thus possible to take (one of) these courses without taking the whole minor.

  • Registration

For this course a special registration process (selection) will take place. You must apply for the minor before 12 September 2022 by sending a motivation email/letter, CV and list of grades to minorjlt.rechten@vu.nl.

If you only want to register for the courses Human Rights in Action and/or Legal Technology and Legal Design Thinking, you can do that from 15 July 2022 using the regular registration process.

Are you an exchange student or Semester in Amsterdam student? The International Office is responsible for course approval and registration. Please contact either the Incoming Exchange Team or Semester in Amsterdam Team for details:
