From dispute to dialogue: building bridges with language

Discover the fundamental role of language in health communication

Dialogue, Health and Society focuses on the theoretical and practical role of language in health communication and medical care. In a world of polarization and empowered citizens and patients, dialogue has become indispensable.

You will gain advanced knowledge about dialogue in real-world contexts ranging from doctor-patient interaction to online debates about vaccination. You will also apply these insights during your internship as a dialogue specialist in organizations such as the WHO, municipal health departments or NGOs.

As Maartje, one of our students, tells it:

"As a former medical student I am very happy to follow this track. It allows me both to use my experience in medicine and to learn a lot of things about communication. It is really interesting to see the huge influence communication has on health and disease"

Dialogue, Health and Society is one of the tracks of the master's programme in Communication and Information Studies. Our students would recommend this track to 'anyone interest in health, with a health background, or: communication students who want to make a real difference within organizations that really matter.'
