Collection HDC | Protestant heritage

Collection HDC/Protestant Heritage include various types of materials, including a large number of private archives of Protestant individuals and organizations, which have been active in the political, social, or socio-cultural fields.

Protestant hymnbooks and early printed materials from refugee congregations are also part of these collections, as well as special material on Dutch-Hungarian Calvinist relations.

Much material has been collected by the Historical Documentation Center for Dutch Protestantism since 1800 (HDC). These include the personal archives of the prime ministers Kuyper, Heemskerk, Colijn, Zijlstra, and Biesheuvel, as well as archives of pastors and men of letters. In addition to organizations such as the Antirevolutionary Party, the Christians for Socialism movement, the Patrimonium Housing Foundation and the Protestant-Christian Teachers Association, there are the archives of the NCRV, the IKON and of student corporations. The HDC materials have been managed and made available by the University Library since 2014.

The collections can be consulted for study and research in the Special Collections Reading Room of the University Library (VU main building 1C-02A).

Not all collections are yet accessible through LibSearch; see also the overview of Archives (only in Dutch).
