VU Amsterdam has a number of organizations which exist to represent the interests of students or certain groups of students.
SRVU Student Union
The SRVU is the main student union active at VU Amsterdam. It was founded in 1947 and, according to its statutes, champions student interests in a 'progressive ideological manner'. Its prime areas of interest are the quality and accessibility of the university's education, good student facilities and adequate affordable student accommodation. To further its aims, the SRVU lobbies, consults and campaigns at university, local and national level. The University Student Council and Faculty Student Councils represent student interests. They are the co-determination bodies and official consultation partners within the university's democratic structure. Members are appointed further to annual elections.
